Was That Someone Running in A Speedo? Wait, Was That 200 of Them?

On December 14, 2024, downtown Annapolis was abuzz as over 200 spirited participants donned festive swimwear (euphemism for speedo) for the 18th Annual Santa Speedo Run. This unique holiday tradition, initiated in 2006, brings the community together to support local charities while celebrating the season with a dash of humor and goodwill.

The event commenced at O'Brien's Oyster Bar & Seafood Tavern, where runners gathered for registration and holiday merriment (alcohol) before embarking on a brisk jog through the historic streets of Annapolis. Spectators lined the sidewalks, cheering on participants clad in" creative holiday-themed"creative" attire, from classic Santa suits to imaginative elf costumes.

Beyond the festive display, the Santa Speedo Run serves a philanthropic purpose. Attendees contributed toys and non-perishable food items, benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel County Food Bank. This year's contributions are expected to brighten the holidays for numerous local families in need.

Following the run, participants and supporters reconvened at O'Brien's for an after-party featuring live music by the Timmie Metz Band with Tambo,!
