LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Chris Bottoms says his father, Archie, was trying to grab a hot dog on the evening of Dec. 28. To do that, he had to cross 48th St. and Avenue L.
"As he's crossing the intersection here, he was hit," Chris said. "There's no skid marks anywhere, nobody stopped, nobody slowed down. They just kept going."
Archie uses a wheelchair to get around, and you can still see parts of his now broken wheelchair at the intersection, along with blood on the sidewalk.
"He's in critical condition," Chris said. "Multiple surgeries, both lungs collapsed, bruised heart, broken humerus on his left arm, broken tibia and fibula on his right leg, broken hip."
Chris says the news has taken a toll on the family emotionally.
"It's sad and it's just hard to see him like this," Chris said. "He's in a medically induced coma, so we can't even talk to him to comfort him, can't hear his voice to comfort us and it's hard to know somebody can be so heartless."
LPD reports no arrests have been made so far and the investigation is ongoing.
Chris says while his family doesn't know who is responsible, he hopes someone will step up and take accountability.
"This is a father," Chris said, "a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a son, and there's a lot of people who care and want to see somebody brought to justice for this."
