Salvation Army to provide free meals on Christmas in Phoenix

PHOENIX -- The Salvation Army will be providing free Christmas meals on Wednesday for all Phoenix-area residents in need.

Meals will be distributed in the south building of the Phoenix Convention Center, located at the corner of Washington and Third streets.

For those who cannot leave their homes, a meal delivery service will transport hot meals to home-bound individuals.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and meal distribution will begin at 11:30 a.m. Food will be provided until 1 p.m. or until meals run out.

An outdoor area will open at 11:30 a.m. for guests with animals. Pet food and supplies will also be available free of charge.

Only service animals will be allowed inside the building.

Approximately 6,000 meals are expected to be provided to Phoenicians.

The Salvation Army said the following components make up the 6,000 meals:

In addition, the charitable organization will also provide emotional and spirtual support and complimentary haircuts, family photos and photos with Santa Claus.

Live music, a children's craft station and more entertainment will also be offered.

Approximately 1,300 volunteers will help make the event possible.

The Salvation Army has been providing meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas for more than 30 years.
