Town of Onondaga, N.Y. -- Two people were displaced Friday evening by a fire that spread into the home from a chimney in the town of Onondaga, firefighters said.
Firefighters were called to the home at 4808 Yenny Road around 4:18 p.m. due to a chimney fire, said Onondaga Hill Fire Department Deputy Chief Dante Garofalo.
While driving to the two-story home, Garofalo said firefighters received calls stating the fire had spread to the rest of the house. The fire had extended about 15 feet and spread to parts of the roof and second floor, he said.
As firefighters attempted to put out the fire, they were concerned the ceiling might collapse and evacuated, he said. They extinguished most of the fire from outside and worked their way back in, putting a majority of the fire out in about 30 minutes, he said.
The two displaced residents were assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
