Screenings of Echoes of Glory: Heroes from the American Revolution are slated for Jan. 5 and Jan. 18.

The Allendale SC250 Revolutionary War Committee has been awarded a grant providing screening events and discussions with audiences of two award-winning docudramas, All for Liberty, and Echoes of Freedom: Heroes from the American Revolution in January at the Carolina Theater in Allendale. The screenings are a part of "Revolutionary Days" events in January.

Myra Jones of Mount Pleasant, portrays young courier for the patriots, Emily Geiger, in Echoes of Glory: Heroes from the American Revolution, as part of SC 250 activities in South Carolina. Myra has spent 20 years as a theatre, film, commercial and voice-over actor, and performed with various theater companies in the southeast, including co-starring in many Actors' Theater of South Carolina's productions.

Myra's ancestors were Patriots who fought in pivotal battles of the American Revolution in South Carolina. During WWII, Myra's mother was a "Rosie the Riveter," building airplanes for the war effort while her father served as an officer in the US Navy. Her mother was a Navy WAVE during the Korean Conflict. Myra's brothers are veterans of the US Air Force. This family tradition of service has fueled Myra to be a community servant, devoting time to many local schools, charities and foundations.

Anne Rice, chair of Allendale County 250 Committee, explained: "The film screenings are a part of events inviting our community to step back in time and explore the rich history of our area during the Revolutionary War. The events celebrate the courage, resilience and diverse contributions of eleven heroes who shaped our nation's fight for independence."

The films were produced by Actors' Theater of South Carolina's Moving Images Group. Screenings are Jan. 5 and Jan. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carolina Theater, in Allendale.

"It is a great honor for our company to be a part of this marvelous commemoration," said Chris Weatherhead. South Carolina Humanities Scholar and panel member, Alexia Jones Helsley adds, "We need to study the transformative nature of the American Revolution in order to be good stewards of our history and freedoms going forward."

A traveling exhibit from the South Carolina State Museum will be available at USC Allendale in January. It reveals how significant the role South Carolina played during the American Revolution, where over 200 engagements (battles and skirmishes) took place, more than any other colony during the war. The exhibit highlights major battles in South Carolina, including the Battle of Sullivan's Island, the Cherokee Attack and Battle of Cowpens, as well as the role African Americans and women played in the war.

The stars of the films include nationally known actors, Clarence Felder, Chris Weatherhead, Rob Gorman, Richard Bryant, Michael Easler, Robbin Knight, Lisa Morelli, Randal Lee Jr., Myra Jones and Michelle P. Warren. Heroes explored in the award-winning docudramas are, Captain Henry Felder, Governor John Rutledge, Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, John Featherston, John Laurens, Catherine Felder, Emily Geiger, Mary Oliver, Daniel Morgan, Peter Harris (Catawba), and Rebecca Brewton Motte.

South Carolina had the second-most battles and skirmishes of any state in the Revolutionary era, but the state's significant contributions to America's independence are rarely recognized in the national conversation.
