KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Volunteers men's basketball team breaks into the No. 1 spot in this week's AP Poll for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
During the 2018-19 season, the Vols were ranked No. 1 for four consecutive weeks (Jan. 19, Jan. 28, Feb. 4, Feb. 11).
This is the earliest Tennessee has been atop the poll ever in a season and the first time they have done so in non-conference action.
Tennessee is off to an 8-0 start to the season, coming off a big win in the SEC/ACC Challenge to Syracuse last Wednesday, 96-70.
Last week, the Vols were ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll. Kansas, who was previously ranked No. 1, loss twice this past week to unranked Creighton and Missouri. Aubrun, who was No. 2, fell to No. 9 Duke.
The Vols are headed to Madison Square Garden to take on Miami on Tuesday in the Jimmy V. Classic. Tennessee and Miami will square off in New York at 6:30 pm ET on ESPN.
