MHP beefing up patrol for the upcoming holiday

Police are beefing up on patrol this week.While hundreds pack the highways leading up to Christmas Day, the Mississippi Highway Patrol will be making sure drivers are safe.It will be at checkout points in different areas looking for speeders, impaired drivers, stranded motorists and more."Put the phones down. No texting and driving. Pay attention to your surroundings and also pay attention to the ones that's driving as well. If you see anything that looks out of the normal, call us star 47 and let us know what mile mark you are at. Mile marks are very important," said Trooper Darnika Mayfield.According to Triple A, 107 million people are forecast to be driving to their holiday destinations between now and New Year's, which is about 2.5 million more people than last year.The MHP will begin increased patrol Monday morning at 6 a.m. and last through Thursday.
