Lisa Kudrow Shares Heartbreaking Revelation About 'Friends' Reunion

The Friends cast was well known for their on-screen dynamic that seemed to translate off-screen. But in the 17 years between the series finale and the reunion special, the beloved Friends cast reunited just once, Lisa Kudrow has revealed. During a recent appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's On Me podcast, Kudrow revealed that she, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and the late Matthew Perry all met for dinner at someone's house a decade after Friends' final episode.

"We'd only had dinner, the six of us, once before since the show ended," Kudrow told Ferguson.

Despite the time that had lapsed since the six had all been together, Kudrow said "they didn't miss a beat." Friends premiered in 1994 and made stars of its talented young cast. The characters played so well off each other on-screen that it's hard to imagine any odd dynamics off-screen. But still, Kudrow shared during an appearance on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast that the relationship between the core cast "took some work." Part of that meant learning how to openly communicate:

"If someone said something or did something, it didn't get too big because it was, 'Can I talk to you? I had to learn to be like, 'Can I talk to you about something?' Because I never knew that was allowed. I saw it modeled really well by Courteney and Jennifer and Matt: respectful communication."

Beyond Central Perk: Lisa Kudrow's Post-'Friends' Projects Close

Throughout its ten-season run, Friends earned accolades and a huge fan following and cemented its standing as a pop culture icon. For her portrayal of the lovable Phoebe Buffay, Kudrow earned the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy in 1998. Post-Friends, Kudrow has continued to have a successful career in both film and television.

In 2005, Kudrow starred in HBO's critically lauded The Comeback, which she also co-created and executive produced. The series follows a washed-up sitcom actress attempting a comeback, earning Kudrow several awards and nominations, including an Emmy nod in the Best Actress category. HBO later revived the sitcom for a second season, which aired in late 2014. In film, Kudrow has appeared in movies including P.S. I Love You, Easy A, Neighbors, and Booksmart. In 2021, she shared the screen with the Friends cast for a reunion special. Perry tragically passed away on October 28, 2023, from the acute effects of ketamine.

Next, Kudrow stars alongside another '90s TV icon, Ray Romano, in the upcoming Netflix series No Good Deed. This dark comedy, created by Liz Feldman (Dead to Me), follows three families vying for the same 1920s Spanish-style villa, each hoping that the house will solve their respective problems. Joining Kudrow and Romano is an impressive cast that includes Linda Cardellini, Luke Wilson, Teyonah Parris, Abbi Jacobson, Poppy Liu, Denis Leary, and O-T Fagbenle. No Good Deed premieres Thursday, December 12, on Netflix. Friends is streaming on Max. Meanwhile, we're still keeping our fingers crossed for a Romy & Michele's High School Reunion sequel.
