The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger wrestling team has new faces coaching and strong returning individuals that should bring on a winning 2024-2025 program to MHS wrestling.
Longtime coach Joel Anderson retired from coaching the Middlesex School wrestling team last year and new Head Coach James Cox and Assistant Coach Gary Hicks are taking over the program.
Cox is a teacher at Middlesex High School and a longtime wrestling coach -- he coached at Chesterfield and Midlothian high schools. Hicks came from coaching positions at Mechanicville and Highland Springs high schools.
"We are excited about taking over such a strong wrestling program," said Cox. "Middlesex has had a good program for years and we plan to maintain the standards that were set by Coach Anderson and other coaches and wrestlers."
The Chargers have a strong returning lineup from last year's roster and have wrestlers in all but two weight classes. Zach Dean is returning and was a 2023-2024 Class 1 state qualifier and is expected to be a strong performer on Cox's team.
Other returning wrestlers from the 2023 team include Cole Glasco, Tucker Campbell, Wyatt St. Louis, Ethan Walker, Joseph Rowe, Zach Deagle, Talon Busic, Karli Parker, and Dominic Snyder.
The Chargers have two transfer wrestlers that came from Northumberland High School, Austin Fisher and Joseph Brandon. They both wrestled for the Indians last year and are expected to help the Chargers lineup this year.
